MY HEALING JOURNEY THROUGH ART
Dear Wonderful Art Lover,
Thanks for stopping by to read this. Here is a short story to explain why I made this collection - I hope it resonates with you.
Over ten years ago, while driving home from my art studio, a feeling of dread came over me. I had not gotten a mammogram for almost
two years, and I could sense that something was wrong. My body was asking me, “ Do I have breast cancer? ”
I DID have it, and it changed my life…….for the better. 😊
Three months later, with a diagnosis of first stage breast cancer, my eyes were feasting on a beautiful mountain in France, Mt. Saint Victoire, painted a hundred times by one of the great fathers of modern art, Paul Cezanne.
As I took in the breathtaking view, I knew that I had to make a decision, and it wasn’t going to be easy for me. You see, my mom died of ovarian cancer, and I didn’t want to go the way she did. 👍
I wrestled with the decision to have chemo and radiation, or, to go at it naturally. I was used to pleasing people and no one in my family, including my husband, thought the natural route would heal me.
…..but ….my body was screaming to be heard, and I knew that my soul would wither, and my body would die, if I didn’t follow my intuition.
I turned uncertain times into unconditional trust.
Before returning to California, I found a medical doctor, naturopath, and psychologist all rolled into one who had a clinic in Texas. We started therapy sessions by phone when I was in France. Against my entire family’s wishes, yet with their loving support, I left for Texas soon after I got home to California.
I learned to trust my intuition.

I got treatment every day, and while I was there, I decided to paint in a little book. These paintings were so tiny, and for a good reason. I needed to paint my feelings quickly, and I wanted a book that was easy to carry around - and, most important, it was purely for myself.
For most of my life, I had learned to draw and paint by copying things in front of me. I was conditioned to paint for the visual effects first, the emotions second. I often shared my art, hoping for approval.
But NOW I needed art to help me survive!
Making intuitive art - images, shapes and colors out of my imagination - was a pivitol part of my healing. I started each painting with a color I liked. I had no idea what I was going to paint until the color touched the paper.
The painting shown above is called A Small Hill to Climb. The journey of healing from cancer feels like climbing a large mountain. I wanted to climb the small hills of that mountain, so that I could ensure steps towards healing, and eventually come to the top to enjoy the view after my long journey.
Mountains ring of stability, and offer peace.
Mountains can be climbed and enjoyed every step of the way, and at that pinnacle point where we see the valley below, we know we have arrived at our sense of peace and healing.
After eleven years, I am cancer free. I know I'm not going to get cancer again. My intuition told me to dig deep and find a way to uproot my anxiety.
All mountains are sacred to me, and these intuitive and imaginative mountain paintings in watercolor move through me and stabilize me, enabling me to heal from anything!

WHY I CHOSE TO PAINT SACRED MOUNTAINS
As a watercolorist, I started to listen to and follow my creative intuition. One day I put water on paper, threw paint into the water and developed a mountain from my imagination.
After painting many kinds of mountains, I realized that every sacred mountain painting is my connection to the sacred mountains all over the world. They seem to appear out of nowhere and magically make themselves known on paper. I know there is an intelligence beyond myself that helps me bring these majestic earthly thrones to life.
